We surprised our three teens with a late summer road trip to Rocklin to check out Quarry Park Adventures—and it was the perfect family day! With a rare free Saturday (no sports or activities—miracle!), we packed up the car and made the quick drive (1 hour, 45 min) for a little adrenaline-fueled fun.

So, what is Quarry Park Adventures? Opened about 7 years ago, this outdoor adventure park is built into a former granite quarry and features zip lines, ropes courses, climbing walls, free-fall jumps, paddle boats, and so much more. After gearing up with harnesses and helmets (and a quick 20-minute safety tutorial), we were off—starting with the main zip line that sails across the quarry. From there, the adventure only got better:

Aerial Adventure: A three-story ropes course with easy, medium, and hard options. It’s a true test of balance, strength, and agility, but so much fun! This is a great family bonding experience as we were all encouraging each other through the challenging sections.

Rock Climbing: My kids are sporty but had never tackled a climbing wall—this was a highlight for them! It was definitely tougher than expected, but they pushed themselves and made it pretty far.

Via Ferrata: Italian for “iron path,” this experience had us clipping into the rock walls on the quarry’s perimeter. There are two levels of difficulty, and I recommend going straight for the harder one—the views are worth it!

Free Fall: One of the most heart-pounding parts of the day. Even though you’re strapped in and completely safe, stepping off the quarry rim takes courage. The system gently lowers you to the platform 40 feet below.

Rappel: Hands down, this was our favorite activity! There’s something epic about rappelling down a cliff face—it felt like a scene from Mission Impossible.

Paddle Boats: We wrapped up with a relaxing paddle around the lake (well, we cruised while the kids tried to see who could go fastest).

For families with younger kids, Kids Kove is a mini adventure zone with climbing nets, mini zips, and balance beams—it looked like a blast, though we didn’t try it since my crew is 13+.

The staff was fantastic—friendly, helpful, and made us feel safe the whole time. Whether you go as a summer send-off or plan a fall weekend day trip, Quarry Park Adventures is 100% worth it. We left tired, happy, and already talking about when we’ll go back!
