A Stroll in Sunol: Pours, Picnics & Paws

Sunol is one of those Tri-Valley hidden gems that always feels like a little escape, even though it’s just a few miles from Pleasanton.

That’s why I’m so excited for A Stroll in Sunol: Pours, Picnics & Paws on August 22. It brings together four of my favorite things: food, wine, live music, and dogs. The event takes over Sunol Depot Gardens with local wine, beer, food vendors, live acoustic music, artisan makers, lawn games, and plenty of dog-friendly fun.

It’s a free, family-friendly event supporting the Sunol Business Guild, with the community, local businesses, and Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert coming together for a great afternoon.

For anyone who wants to taste Livermore Valley wines, wine tasting packages are available. Use promo code TRIVALLEYEXPLORER for 20% off. CLICK HERE for tickets.

Participating wineries include Nella Terra, Mission Peak, Fenestra Winery, Arroyo Cellars, Wente Vineyards, Omega Road Winery, The Steven Kent Winery, Wood Family Vineyards, Retzlaff Vineyards, and more.

Why Credit Unions are Different - and Why it Matters

This week’s Local Authority is with our friends at UNCLE Credit Union, and we’re breaking down a question I’ve honestly had too: what actually makes a credit union different from a bank? It’s one of those things people hear about all the time, but may not fully understand.

Rebecca: How is a credit union different from a bank?
UNCLE Credit Union: Banks are owned by shareholders and operate to generate profits. Credit unions are owned by their members, which means decisions are made with members’ financial well-being in mind. Instead of sending profits to shareholders, credit union earnings are returned to members through better rates, lower fees, and improved services.

Rebecca: Are credit unions only for certain people?
UNCLE Credit Union: Not anymore. Membership has expanded quite a bit, and many people are eligible based on where they live, work, worship, attend school, or through family members.

Rebecca: Why does the credit union difference matter?
UNCLE Credit Union: Because credit unions are built around putting members first. That means better value, more personal service, and continued support for the communities they serve.

UNCLE Credit Union has been operating for nearly 70 years and is your one stop shop for banking, home loans, auto loans, wealth management and more!

Opening Night AND the After Party at the Bankhead!

Opening Night at the Bankhead is more than a concert.

Yes, four-time Grammy Award winner Lyle Lovett is headlining the evening with an unforgettable performance, but the night continues after the show with the NEW Plaza After Party featuring Matt Axton & Badmoon. Click here for tickets, only a handful remain!

Guests can dance under the stars on the Bankhead Plaza, enjoy tapas-style bites and desserts, sip wine and beverages from the no-host bar, and celebrate the arts with fellow community supporters.

Best of all, the evening supports arts education outreach programs, helping bring the power of the arts to more students and families in our community.

A concert, an after party, and a great cause? That’s a pretty perfect Tri-Valley night.

New Pinball Arcade Coming to Dublin!

Dublin is getting a new spot for games, high scores, and a little escape from real life.

The Getaway, a new pinball arcade, is opening soon at 6890 Village Parkway in Dublin, with the grand opening scheduled for the end of August!

The idea behind The Getaway is simple: everyone deserves a place to escape.

Whether you want to chase a high score, compete with friends, or just leave the outside world behind for a bit, this sounds like a fun new addition to Dublin.

Games are expected to include Aerosmith, Deadpool Premium, Godzilla, James Bond Pro, Jaws Pro, Star Wars Pro, and many more.

Rumor has it they’ll also have beer, cider, non-alcoholic drinks, and snacks.

I’ll share more details once I have them.

A Very Unique Wine Dinner at Uncle Yu’s at the Vineyard

Livermore’s Cab Franc movement keeps gaining momentum, and this dinner brings together some of the best local wine and food in one place.

The Cab Franc Guild is hosting an intimate wine dinner at Uncle Yu’s at the Vineyard, a Livermore favorite known for having one of the most incredible wine lists in California.

This is not your typical wine dinner. The entire evening is dedicated to Cabernet Franc, with selections from Cuda Ridge, McGrail Vineyards, Rosa Fierro Cellars, and The Steven Kent Winery paired across multiple courses.

The pairings will be curated by Master Sommelier Nick Liang, highlighting how beautifully Cabernet Franc works with food.

Guests will enjoy a multi-course dinner, meet participating winemakers, and experience one of California’s most food-friendly varietals in a deeper way. Call (925) 449-7000 for reservations!

Summer Bash at the 3rd Annual Del Valle Winery Shindig!

Del Valle Winery is throwing its biggest bash of the summer on Saturday, August 1 from 5–9:30pm, and this sounds like such a fun night under the stars.

Dust off your cowboy boots and pull out your best western look for an evening of food, wine, beer, and live music in the vineyard.

The night features a high-energy performance from Mitch Polzak, with Livermore’s own Loren O. kicking things off.

Use discount code TRIVALLEYEXPLORER for 10% off single tickets or fire pit tables, which include six tickets. Click here for tickets!

News Around the Valley

  • Huge shoutout to PetCura Animal Hospital on Holmes St. in Livermore.

My dog pulled a bunch of grapes off the counter last week around 7:30pm, and I panicked when I got home and saw the stems on the ground. Grapes are extremely dangerous for dogs, so I called PetCura right away. They had us come in immediately, we saw a doctor within minutes, and I was home with my baby boy about 90 minutes later. So grateful. Thank you, PetCura!

  • Dublin’s Summer Concert Series has been a fun mix of music, and there are just two free shows left at Emerald Glen Park: Take 2 on July 30 and Tainted Love on August 6. Both start at 6pm during the Dublin Farmers’ Market.

  • Livermore’s Zombie Crawl is set for Saturday October 24th! This is the same group that holds SantaCon every year where hundreds of people dressed as Santa stroll downtown and enjoy local food and drinks. More details coming soon, but check out their Insta for more.

  • Dublin is getting a new Night Market this fall with food, live music, cultural performances, family-friendly activities, handmade goods, artisan finds, and local treasures. Mark your calendar for August 21, September 25, October 23, and November 13.

  • Shocking news in Livermore - local favorite, Da Boccery, closed early for the safety of their staff during the Little Fire last week and a thief broke in and stole around a $1000 worth of meat and cheese.
